The World is Your Present: Why Travel is the Ultimate Gift

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

The Christmas Holiday season is my favorite time of year. And there’s no better place to set you in the holiday spirit than Christmas markets in Europe. One of the most iconic Christmas markets in the world is the Vienna Christmas World on Rathausplatz near Vienna's historic city hall, Rathaus. The market has about 150 stalls offering traditional Austrian foods, Christmas ornaments, crafts and of course drinks. As you stroll the market you’ll notice the light installations throughout, each one based upon a Children’s Christmas story. The aroma of Gluwein (hot spiced wine) fills the air.  In the background you’ll hear choirs and trumpeters on the Christkindl stage directly below the grand Christmas tree. Perhaps get a pair of skates and enjoy the 10,000-square-foot ice rink. while taking in the beautiful light installations based on children's Christmas stories.

Or perhaps Prague, Walt Disney was on to something when he took his inspiration for Cinderella’s Castle from Tyn Cathedral in Old Town Square – it was the magic of Prague. Prague Christmas markets capture the holiday spirit amongst the best of them. Of these, the most awe inspiring can be found at Old Town Square, nestled around the Jan Hus statue, and surrounded by centuries-old Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Traditional folk dance and musical performances are a must see and hear. The air is filled with mulled wine and holiday treats. While I believe the cold and snow are all part of the Christmas experience it may not be for everyone, and so Catania Sicily may be the answer.

Catania on the island of Sicily has beautiful Christmas markets. Piazza Università Christmas market sets the stage with wooden huts, the aroma of Buccellato (a traditional Sicilian cake made of pastry filled with figs and nuts). Stroll down the side streets off the Piazza and you’ll find wooden huts that focus on local crafts. Carved wooden ornaments, handmade woolen scarves and mittens, and traditional majolica ceramics. Whether it be Italy, Germany, Austria, Denmark or France you’ll have an experience that will create memories that last a lifetime. Contact RockStar Luxe Travel to experience the magic of Prague at Christmas. It's a journey that will leave you spellbound.
